Ultrasound and Definite Gender Determination

Yesterday was my follow up Type 2 ultrasound with the perinatologist (at Cedars). Rob got a half day from work and before we headed over there I had an iced gingerbread latte to try and wake the baby up. Iced because it was 92 freaking degrees in the city (even worse in the valley). 92 on November 1. Good lord, that's just not right.

We got to the appointment a bit early and then realized that we had forgotten our video tape. Luckily, a little gift shop had some VHS tapes in stock. So, we picked one up and headed to the appointment.

This appointment was a bit different than the last one. Last time I just spent the entire appointment being seen by one of the doctors. This time a sonographer first checked out the baby and then one of the other doctors came in. Everything went well. The baby looks great, all of the organs are coming along well with no visible problems (apparently one of the reasons for the re-check was that there was a concern about the baby having an irregular heartbeat problem like I do, but it all checked out fine), and he's measuring right on cue. Yay! Healthy baby! This time we got a definite gender determination (well, as definite as an ultrasound can be). It's a boy! And apparently a well-endowed boy as they kept thinking in previous shots that from the size of the winkie it had to be the umbilical cord. All the better to pee on the ceiling with? Yes, I have resigned myself to the fact that this baby has Rob's genes and will probably pee on the ceiling and anything else that can't outrun him. So, we're definitely having a Gabriel, and a spazzy one at that. The coffee worked this time to wake him up and then some. He was moving all around during the ultrasound, turning over, doing flips. The doctor even said it looked like he was having a party in there. I have a feeling we'll have our hands full with him. Whenever I'm moving around or in the car he tends to sleep, but when I'm sitting or lying down he wakes up and kicks the hell out of me.

After the appointment we headed over to the Sherman Oaks mall. I am in need of sweaters that will fit during the pregnancy and can't find any maternity sweaters in my size. So, I checked Lane Bryant and found that if I get a bigger size (and make sure it's long) it works for now. Granted the sweaters are supposed to be down to mid-thigh and they're right about hip level, but they work. So, I got four sweaters for now (light green, dark green, blue, and raspberry) and hope they'll last me throughout the pregnancy.

By this time I was once again craving fish - specifically Long John Silver's. Rob was nice enough to give into my craving and take me out to one. Mmmmm, crack battered fish. From dinner on I couldn't eat or have anything else other than water. Today is my glucose tolerance test (ugh) among other things. Well, I need to get ready to head over to the hospital (glucose test, doctor's appointment, and possible meeting with a doula). I'll post more tomorrow.
