Getting Closer!

Well, it's looking as if labor might be closer than we thought. Rob got home from work today and while we were getting ready to head out I went to the bathroom (which is where I can usually be found these days). After peeing I wiped and there was my mucus plug! Ew. It's just nasty looking. I told Rob that I just lost my mucus plug and he was a bit freaked. I've been losing small pieces of it over time, but this was about the size of a friggin' tampon!

I called my Mom to let her know what was up and we put in a message to the doula. I also gave Kat a call since she's been through this before and I just wanted to make sure it didn't mean the baby was coming NOW. After I spoke with Kat, Carmen called us back and asked me some questions about what happened. Chances are it came loose because of the vaginal exam I had yesterday. If not, I'll be in labor by 5am. If it came loose because of the exam, that still says that labor is coming soon - possibly even within the week!

Rob and I decided to chance it and headed out. We made a run to the Babies R Us up in Calabasas. We picked up a car seat base for my car, some dishwasher baskets for things like bottle nipples and pacifiers, and a bottle drying rack. As far as items go, we're good to go - at least for a little bit after he's home from the hospital. It's scary just how many things you need to be ready for a baby and how much it can all add up to. It's true, babies are insanely expensive (and ours isn't even here yet)!

We then headed to TGI Friday's for dinner. They have a decent Atkins menu which works for my GD meals. Dinner was good and our waitress was a spaz. After dinner we made a brief run to the grocery store because I wanted some sugar free chocolate chip cookies and then we headed home.

I've been having contractions for most of the night. They range from tight and uncomfortable, to painful and shooting through to my back. They're not coming in regular intervals, getting closer, or getting worse so I think we're safe for now. But it's looking more and more like labor is right around the corner.

So, here's the deal. Do you want a call when I'm in labor? We'll be calling people at three different times. One is when I'm in labor. The other is when Gabriel is here. And the last is when we're all back at home. If you want a call when I'm in labor or when Gabriel is here then drop me an e-mail with your phone number and we'll put you on the list. If not, you'll get a call when we're back at home after the hospital visit.

Just thought I'd post about the mucus plug loss tonight seeing as how I have no idea if I'll be in labor soonish or not. For those of you I don't know very well you can probably tell if I'm in labor by a lack of posting on my part for a few days straight. Rob's baking my sugar free chocolate chip cookies as I type so I'm gonna get off of here and cookie munch.
