2006-02-07 3:37 PM Jury Duty Update Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Meh Read/Post Comments (7) So, here's a bit of an update on the whole jury duty situation. I called in to register today and spoke with someone. I told them I either needed a long postponement or an excusal. They asked why and I told them the problem - I'm currently 9 months pregnant and due on the 22nd. The time they're calling me in for is not only the time in which I'll be recovering from labor, but also I will be the only caregiver for our child on weekdays. My family lives in Illinois, Rob's lives in New York, and Rob needs to be at work during the week days. So... there's really no one else who can take care of the baby. The lady on the phone told me to fill out a certain form and send it in. They'll look at it and decide what, if anything, they will do to help my situation. Sometimes these things are turned down flat. However, she said she thinks I should at least be able to get a three month postponement. At best I'll get a one year postponement. I'm hoping for that one. I normally don't care either way if I have jury duty or not, but it's more than just a hassle when I'm going to have to take care of my baby during the days and have no one else who could do so. Now don't get me wrong, the baby is NOT the hassle. The baby rocks. The jury duty is the hassle. So, we'll see what comes of that. Apparently if I hear nothing then I'm still on call for the week of March 13. And you cannot bring a child with you. Lovely. Here's hoping I at least get postponed for a little bit. A year would be perfect. Jury duty in Los Angeles is a bitch to get out of. I think the only excusal is when you're dead. I don't know why, but jury duty summons always come to me at the worst possible times. If I ever got one when I had nothing going on I wouldn't have any problems with it. But so far all of the summons I have received (with one exception) have been at a very bad time. I got summoned on my birthday one year, during finals, during the week of my honeymoon, during the week of the bar exam, and now this. The only time the summons didn't suck was the August after the bar. I just spent the week calling in and wasn't even called. I think they have inconvienience-dar. Inconvienient for you to be called? Send out the summons! I'm hormonal and due to give birth at any time. I did not need the jury summons yesterday. It made an already hormonal and bad day worse. At least I feel better today, and I'm getting a pedi tonight. Everything is going the same as far as the pregnancy goes. I'm still having a lot of false labor contractions, but the real thing hasn't yet struck. I can't hold on to my mucus plug for more than a few hours, but still no bloody show. With the signs I'm having the baby could come tonight, or he could hold out until my due date or beyond. Right now, it's a waiting game and it's all up to Gabriel. I have my next doctor's appointment on Thursday and I'm assuming she'll see if I have progressed any farther. ----------
