Gabriel is currently entranced by the Teletubbies (shudders) so I have some time to come on here and maybe get an entry done in one sitting. Maybe. We'll see about that.

Anyway, I've been noticing some cool things about Gabriel recently and it's time for me to do a proud Mommy brag. It would seem that at 4 months old, he's getting down the concept of the barter system. Impressive. Whenever Rob or I eat anything with chocolate in it, he wants some. Normally with when Rob or I eat any solid food or drink anything other than milk or water in front of him he looks at us with puppy dog eyes, squeaks a bit, and chews on his hand. It's so sad because we can't give him anything other than formula until he's at least 6 months old. With chocolate it's different though, he tries to make trades with us. Usually he holds out Iggy in one hand and says "Iggy" and then hold out his empty hand while looking at the chocolate and says "Ning?". Ning is the word for whatever he happens to need or want at the moment. He's offered us his Iggy for some of our chocolate! He's also done this with his binky and whatever other toys he happens to be holding at the moment. While I'm proud of my son for being able to understand how to barter at four months old, I don't think I'll be trading any solid food (even chocolate) for his Iggy.

He's also impressed me with understanding the concept that there are sometimes more than one part to an object. Most of the time when he has a binky he takes it out of his mouth to play with it. He's only started being able to put it back in. However, when he holds it he examines it and he seems to have noticed that the handle is a different piece of plastic than the main body of the binky. He then tries to pull it apart. He's done this with other toys as well. Even with Iggy he'll notice that the plastic chew feet are different than the plushie blanket part and try to pull them off. Needless to say, I'm impressed that my four month old is understanding the concept of separate parts after examining something. Of course then he tries to make the parts separate. *sigh*

It's really kind of neat seeing him learn new things, especially when they're things that are advanced for his age. I'm still wigged about his insistence about rolling over onto his stomach when he sleeps. He can (and does) roll back onto his side or back when he wants to, but he usually prefers to sleep on his stomach and no matter how much I roll him to his back will fight me to be on his stomach. I won't be comfortable with that until he's at least a year old and the main risk for SIDS is behind us.

On to other things. Last night Rob and I stayed in. He ran across the street to grab some Mexican food, but I ended up having to eat stuff from around the house when we found out that they messed up the order and put onions in my burrito. We watched the Blade TV show and America's Got Talent and just chilled out around the house while I worked on more laundry. I got as much as I could done yesterday (from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed) and am doing more laundry now.

As a side note, I have a few more pictures of Gabriel loaded up onto the computer. Drop me an e-mail or a comment if you would like me to send some of the good ones your way.

And yes, I did manage this entry in one sitting. Now it's time to go though because the Teletubbies just ended and Gabriel's getting fussy.

What Is Your Daemon?

CAT - your daemon may be a cat if you are independent and comfort loving. You follow your heart and do what you want to do - no matter what others think. You have a strong sense of your own worth, and an inner dignity. You may be loving and generous in one moment, and then lash out at someone in the next. You have as many moods as there are colours in a rainbow, and you wear them all brilliantly. You always know what you want right now - although in five minutes you may change your mind and set your sights elsewhere. You like to do things with style and flair. When someone else orders you to do something, do you feel an unholy urge to do exactly the opposite? That just might be your inner daemon talking.
