Bad Days

The last few days have had a lot of problems in them. The only good thing was that I got to see my Mom. Wow, it's going to take a very long time to type up this entry considering how bad it hurts to type. *sigh*

So, my Mom came on Monday. She got here around 3:30pm and Rob got home early from work around 4:00pm. She watched Gabriel while we headed to the Toyota dealer to check out the Rav4 once more. He had his choice of new cars narrowed down to a Rav4 or a Subaru Forester. It was a lot easier to check out the car without a screaming toddler in tow. We test drove it again and Rob decided that we didn't even need to go to Subaru, he wanted the Rav4. So, when my Mom is out here again, we'll work on getting the car.

On the way home we grabbed some fish for dinner and then chilled out at home and watched the Olympics.

Tuesday morning I had my appointment with the orthopedic surgeon. Mom stayed home with Gabriel while I went there. He looked at the thing inside of my wrist and said that it was, indeed, a ganglion cyst. He said it's a fairly small one, but due to the location he couldn't smash or aspirate it. To have it removed would require surgery and because of the location it would probably come back. He recommended leaving it in and only surgically removing it if it grew so big that it needed to be removed for cosmetic or mobility reasons. He also said that ganglion cysts are asymptomatic... which means all my other problems have another source.

The main reason I went in was due to a lot of constant problems with my wrist. My hand is usually numb or on pins and needles, I get pain quite often in my hand, wrist, and arm, I have no strength in my right hand, and I can't squeeze things like shampoo or lotion out of the bottle. None of these are caused by the cyst.

After some tests, he said I have one of the worst cases of carpel tunnel he's ever seen. On the bright side, my left wrist is just fine. My treatment options were either surgery or getting a cortosone shot every 6-12 months. I chose the shot. He warned me that my hand would be numb for the rest of the day and that things would get worse before they got better. I didn't know how right he was.

He smeared some stuff on my wrist and then sprayed it with something cold. I used meditation to not feel the actual shot (I can shut out all pain for brief periods of time) and so I don't know if the shot hurt or not.

My hand did go numb and it wasn't easy to drive home from the appointment. Thank god I had my Mom here to help me with Gabriel! I couldn't have done it on my own. The numbness was annoying and I couldn't move my hand at all.

We spent the rest of the day in. My Mom had to head out to take her car in for it's 15k mile service. Gabriel was good for me when she did so. He even took a nap when she headed out a second time to pick the car up. That night Rob brought home Taco Bell for dinner and we watched Big Brother and more of the Olympics.

On Wednesday, the numbness wore off. It was horribly painful and I came out of the shower crying from the pain. I have a high pain tolerance so my Mom knew it was bad. We worked things out where I'd be able to stay with her until she headed home, which would only give me a short time along with Gabe.

Wednesday morning I had to take Sydney back into the vet. It's been two weeks since his dental surgery and he's still having mouth pain. One thing that was bothering him was that one of his sutures didn't dissolve. That was easily pulled out. But the main problem was that one of his bottom teeth was cutting into the area on top where one of his teeth was removed. It ripped the stitches out and ripped his gums open. He also had a bad infection. She said they couldn't just stitch it back closed (he'd have to be knocked out for another surgery for that) because the bottom tooth would rip it open again and removing the healthy bottom tooth would make it so he doesn't have any chewing teeth left. They gave me some antibiotics and we're hoping that when the infection is gone that it will heal up on it's own. I have a follow up appointment next Wednesday morning and we'll see what's happening with it and we'll go from there.

After the vet appointment we took Sydney back home and went out for lunch. As a side note, Greenies Pill Pockets cat treats are amazing if you have to pill a cat! We grabbed lunch from McDonald's and then went to visit my Nana. She's back in the Sterling House. Yay!

Gabriel was pretty well behaved and my Nana loved to see him. She's much happier in the Sterling House and she seemed to be in good spirits. We stayed there for about two hours. On the way home my Mom needed to drop some wheelchair legs off at the Virginia and then we came back to my house.

Mom headed back home around 3:30pm. Knowing that I would have a hard time with Gabriel, Rob came home from work early and got here around 4:30pm.

We headed out to get more of the Greenies Pill Pockets (I only got a sample from the vet's) and then grabbed Chinese food for dinner. We then did a small amount of gaming and watched the Olympics.

Oh, our comfy chair (that's only three years old) broke last night. Gabriel jumped on it and we heard a very bad noise. Rob looked at it and the coiled springs that held the seat up snapped in half. The chair was only three years old. If this is the quality of their merchandise, I would recommend against buying a Lazy Boy chair.

Because the junk removal people charge $200 to remove furniture, Rob took it up into the loft for now. We decided to not replace it and for now are using our LoveSac in the area we had our chair in.

When it rains it pours. My wrist, Sydney's dental problem, our broken chair... good lord. If things really do come in threes, then hopefully that's our bad luck for now.

Today my wrist still hurts, but it's better than it was yesterday. I'm supposed to use a splint from now on whenever I sleep or drive, but since it hurts I'm also using it all day. When the shot kicks in and everything feels better I'll use it only when he told me to do so. The splint allows me to take care of Gabriel and the only thing that's been really dificult so far was changing a poopy diaper this morning.

You Are Very Honest
You tell it like it is, no matter what.
Even if the truth hurts, you'll dish it out.
And while some may get hurt by your honesty...
At least everyone knows where you stand!
