2009-01-05 10:46 AM Welcome 2009 Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Sick Read/Post Comments (0) Welcome 2009, I hope this year is good for everyone and my one wish right now is that it brings me a friggin' job. Of course, starting the year off with a cold kind of sucks, but there's not much that can be done about that. And now, a recap of what I've been up to. Wednesday, December 31 After we got up and ready we packed and then did some last minute errands. We made a run to the bank, the post office, and the drug store. We then came back home, packed up the car, and headed out to my Mom's place. The drive out there was uneventful and we grabbed lunch (Wendy's for Rob and I, McDonald's for Gabriel) along the way. When we got to my Mom's place we unpacked and rested. It was nice to have some down time. We had snacks throughout the night (no main dinner) and my Mom opened a bottle of 1999 Jordan cabernet that she had. It was incredible. We had a nice relaxing New Years night and watched the TV coverage of the ball dropping in NY and then watched part of The Phantom of the Opera. Thursday, January 1 We headed into Dubuque and the mall was actually open. We went there to let Gabriel have some time at the indoor playground. Meanwhile, I picked up a new pair of slippers and a really cute blue t-shirt with a skull and cross skateboards on it at Baby Gap for Gabriel. Gabe eventually tired of the play area and ran into the arcade where he found a claw machine full of stuffed Pokemon. His eyes went wide and he freaked - Pokemon is his current obsession. So, I tried to win him one, but I suck at that game. Rob, however, was amazing at it. You know how you're not supposed to be able to win anything with those claw machines? Well, he won FOUR pokemon and Gabriel won one on his own. Rob managed to get a Pikachu, Buizel, Buneary, and an Aipom out of the machine. Gabriel tried it once and got a Krogunk. So, we left with FIVE new Pokemon. Gabriel was super happy. From there we headed to House of China for dinner. We were able to get Gabriel to be very well behaved when we let him have some M&Ms with his dinner. On the way back to my Mom's place we made a stop at Walgreens and then at Wal*Mart for a few items. We spent the rest of the night chilling out at her place. Friday, January 2 Once again, we headed into Dubuque. Our first stop was at Old Navy where I was looking for a new pair of the boot slippers that I love, but they were out of stock of them in a size large. We then made a brief run to Wal*Mart and then headed back to downtown Galena for dinner. We had dinner at Dirty Gurtz Burger Joynt and Gabriel was super well behaved. I don't know why, but he's always been good at that particular restaurant. Dinner was good and when we were done, we headed back to my Mom's place. We spent the night chilling out and popped a bottle of Moet (which I LOVE). I think I drank about half the bottle. For the first time in a long time, I didn't have a problem falling asleep that night. Saturday, January 3 We headed out of my Mom's place a little before 1pm and even with a bathroom stop and a stop to grab Gabriel something to eat, we made great time getting back home. On the way home we stopped at my Uncle Kim and Aunt Pam's house to drop off my Nana's birth certificate and her social security check. We then headed home and unpacked. We then went out once more to grab Chinese food for dinner and headed back home and gamed and watched the first episode of season one of Friday the 13th The Series (an old TV show about two cousins who inhert an antique shop and have to get back the cursed items that had been sold - nothing to do with the movies with Jason in them). Rob seemed to like the show as well and I'm super happy that season one is now out in DVD. Hooray for Netflix! Sunday, January 4 This was the day to get our errands done for the week. We grabbed lunch at Rocky Rococo's and then headed to the Fresh Market for some groceries and also to Babies R Us for some pull ups. We dropped that off at home and then headed to our main grocery store for our large weekly shop. When that was done we came back home, chilled out for awhile, and then went into Milwaukee to grab take out from Buca di Beppo for dinner. While eating dinner we watched part of the new version of Fun With Dick and Jane (which wasn't as horrible as I was expecting) and gave Gabriel his bath. Last night I started feeling not-so-hot and took some Nyquil before going to bed. I'm taking Dayquil today. My nose is stuffy and runny, my throat hurts, my head feels stuffy, my body aches, and there's some gunk in my lungs. So... I think I might be coming down with a cold. I'm good enough to still take care of Gabriel and get the laundry done and the Dayquil helps immensely. This is just something that will need to work its way out of my system. ----------
