Last weekend was fun, relaxing, and fantastic. My only complaint is that it went by all too quickly.

Thursday, July 2

Thursday was a half day for Rob at work. He got home around lunch time and brought some McDonalds home for us to eat while we packed and got ready to leave. We left around 2pm. The ride to my Mom's house was uneventful. We made a stop off on the way at a gas station to get some drinks and snacks and Gabriel had a bag of Fritos. We got to my Mom's place a little after 5pm.

When we got to my Mom's place we unpacked and then had dinner. She made chili for us and as usual, it was fantastically yummy. We watched TV for most of the night, but the only thing I really paid attention to was "So You Think You Can Dance". We also watched a lot of Noggin at Gabriel's request.

Friday, July 3

One of the many things I love about being at my Mom's place is that both Rob and I get to sleep in. She's willing to look after Gabriel in the morning. So, we took full advantage of this and slept in.

During the day, we decided to stick to the Galena area since this was the night that Dubuque was doing its fireworks show and other fourth of July celebrations.

We were going to take Gabriel to the children's part of the library, but he fell asleep in the car, so we just drove around for awhile. One of the places we drove around was a huge old cemetary. I need to bring my camera the next time we're there, the place was gorgeous. There were stones dating back to the 1800's!

When Gabriel began to wake up, we made a run to Wal*Mart where we spoiled him and got him some Pokemon, some Littlest Pet Shop toys, and a Spider Man action figure.

After the Wal*Mart run, we made a run back to my Mom's place and then headed back into Galena to have dinner at Dirty Gurtz Burger Joynt. They have really good food and Gabriel is usually very well behaved there. Dinner was great as usual and when we were finished we headed back to my Mom's house for the night. We chilled out and watched TV.

Saturday, July 4

Saturday morning we slept in once more. In the afternoon we headed out to Dubuque since today was the day that Galena was doing its parade and fireworks. We made some quick runs to Wal*Mart and Target, but they didn't have then Ben 10 action figure we were looking for in stock. We then made a quick mall run. My Mom ran into Borders to look for a specific Pokemon book for Gabriel, but they didn't have it in stock. I then made a run to Baby Gap while Gabriel got to play with my Mom and Rob at an indoor playground. I picked up a light jacket for him and two button up shirts. He's pretty much outgrown his nice slacks, button up shirt, and argyle vest that he has for our Chicago trips when he needs a nice outfit. While I was able to get two button up shirts for him (one white and the other blue), they didn't have any nice slacks or any vests in stock. Meh. I'll have to see if I can find them elsewhere.

After the mall, we headed to dinner at House of China. They have fantastic Chinese food there and we even got Gabriel to eat a few won tons. Dinner was great and when we were done, we headed back to my Mom's house for the night.

Sunday, July 5

Sunday we only got to get a little extra sleep because we needed to head back home. We got up, got ready, ate lunch, packed, and headed out of my Mom's place a little before 1pm. The drive back home was (for the most part) uneventful. There was a phone call where both Rob and I got sucked into family drama in New York (ugh) and we made a stop at the Wisconsin Welcome Center to use the bathroom and get Gabriel a bag of cookies.

When we got back home we unpacked and then headed out to Pick N Save for our grocery store run of the week. When we got back home we gave Gabriel his bath and then ordered in pizza from Rosati's for dinner.

We also watched our Netflix DVD of the remake of "Friday the 13th". I was expecting crap, but it was actually rather well done.

As soon as Gabriel went to sleep, we got ready for bed and passed out as well.

Today

The strep is getting better and while I still have a lingering sore throat, it's definitely on its way out.

I'm back to the normal day - watching Gabriel and washing up some of his laundry.
