2010-04-13 9:31 AM Singulair Problem Solved Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Happy Read/Post Comments (0) Yay! The insurance problem with my Singulair pills seems to have been solved, at least, for the next year. Then I'll have to deal with this all again probably. But for now, it looks like insurance will cover it with a copay of $60/month (which is what it was before). That's a lot better than paying the full price of $160/month! They wanted me on Advair because they don't cover Singulair anymore. My doctor spoke with them and told them that I was on Advair, and while on it I gained 100 pounds in a very short amount of time and then kept on gaining. The weight was becoming more of a problem than the asthma and I needed to be off of that medication. Since I've been off of that medication I've lost around 30 pounds so far. Because there's a medical reason I'm on Singulair (doesn't cause weight gain because it's not a steroid) and not on Advair, they will cover it for a year. I had been on Advair since I was 19 years old until I was 34 years old. In that amount of time I gained a total of 185 pounds. If I drank two slim fast shakes and ate nothing else, I'd still gain. It was insane. Now that I'm off the steroids, I'm down 30 pounds. I still have a lot to lose, but being off the steroids is meaning that slowly but surely, it's happening. I don't even know how someone could think that I should be put back on a medication that caused a 185 pound weight gain. That's insanity. Hell, the gain itself is more than a normal female of my height should weigh! Anyway, at least I have this covered for the next year. So, yay! ----------
