2013-06-12 4:45 PM The Night from Hell Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (0) Monday evening we all headed to the airport to pick up our newest sugar glider, Emrys. What seemed to be an easy thing, turned into a nightmare.
Here's how it all broke down: 1.) The flight from Nashville to Chicago was delayed. So, he missed his connecting flight to Milwaukee. They then lost him. Yeah, misplaced him and forgot about him. We dealt with United at the Milwaukee airport while the breeder dealt with them on the phone. Finally he was found and put on a plane to Milwaukee. They thought. We wouldn't know for certain until he arrived. 2.) Instead of picking him up at United Cargo (like every other airport does), they told us to pick him up at departures. Departures closed at 7pm and then they told us to head to baggage. The flight that came in before the Chicago flight had lost almost everyone's luggage. So, the line to talk to the ONE person in baggage was insanely long. 3.) When the luggage came in from the Chicago flight, Rob got in line. After waiting forever, they told us that the luggage really had not yet come off that flight (lie) and to wait. 4.) About a half hour later, we saw someone walking to the baggage counter with an animal kennel. Saying "fuck it" to the line, I marched straight over there to claim him. They wanted us to sign something saying we received him and that he was in good shape. They were angry when I wanted to check him out to make sure he was all right before Rob signed the paper. At that point, they could kiss my ass. 5.) We finally got back to the car and decided to give Emrys some food and water on the dash of the car. When he was done, we tried to grab him and put him in the bonding pouch. He leapt down under Rob's feet and crawled into the dash of the car. 6.) The next two hours we spent ripping apart the inside of Rob's car to no avail. I called AAA, and they said they couldn't help. I called the vet and they said drive it over and they would help us and (hopefully) Emrys would survive the drive. 7.) At the vet's Dr. Gordon came out and helped us to try and get Emrys out. More of Rob's car was gutted and an hour and a half later, he was still stuck in there. We were sent home with the advice to put food and water on the seat and leave some pouches out and hope he'd be sleeping in one of the pouches come sunrise. 8.) On the way home, Rob started swerving the car (I thought he had passed out) and suddenly had Emrys in his hand. The Little Fucker (this is now his nickname, even at the vet's office) came out and was climbing up Rob's leg. I stuffed him into a pouch and we turned around and went back to the vet. Gabriel was not happy about this. By this time, he just wanted to go home and go to sleep. 9.) We went back to the vet's where they were surprised to see us again. He was checked over and seemed to be in good condition and his fecal came back negative. He was given some glucose since stress can cause a sugar glider to go hypoglycemic and he finally headed home. 10.) It was past 3am when we got home and so Rob decided he was not going into work on Tuesday and Gabriel stayed home from school. Gabriel slept in until noon! 11.) That was when we got the call that my mom had passed out the night before, hurt her head, and cut and hurt her arm badly. I took her to Urgent Care. Her arm isn't broken and we'll be seeing our doc about her passing out sometime in the near future. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
