Grandma's Journal
My Journal

I became a Grandma at the age of 49 years old. Well I was actually only 17 days from being 50. My baby girl gave me gave me my first grandchild. He was a beautiful bouncy boy. Then 2 years later she surprised me on my birthday at 5am by waking me up and telling me "Happy Birthday Mom!" Time to get up we are going to the hospital and having a baby today! I told her NO that's tomorrow. It took a little bit for her to get it through my groggy head that she was going to be giving me a birthday present! and she totally did. She gave me a dark hair beautiful little grand daughter. Now I can enjoy spoiling 2. I have decided that the best thing in the world is being a Grandma! There is nothing that come close to that! I have been married for 30 years to a man that lives for his family. He only wants the best for all of us and spoils us all! He is a good man that works hard for his dollar. We have a pretty good marriage to say the least. Well it must be if we can put up with each others faults this long! My mom who has Alzehimers lives with us and has been for almost 3 years now. She is in the finally stages of the disease and still hangs in there. She loves to grab the broom and sweep. She does this everyday, and several times a day. I keeps her busy. She will even sweep the counch or the kitchen table if you let her. My oldest daughter is going to be 34 years old this year and hasn't lived at home in 16 years. I spend as must time as I can with her. But it is never enough. She plans on coming home to live and take care of us in 7 years. I cant wait! It's my dream to have her home. She is a dear friend to me and we have a great relationship. she always tells me that I am her best friend.

I love Lighthouses, and I collect them. I added a beautiful homemade lighthouse quilt to my collection in November 2008. A friend of my oldest daughter made it for me, and she did a beautiful job. I will treasure it always.

My weekend in Port Ochard

My sister and I managed to pull out of Richland around 4:15pm on Friday...we were sitting at Lenn's house between 9:15 and 9:30pm...He had a fire going under the kazabo and it was so nice and cozy...we sat around and talked for a few hours...

Lenn gave up his bed for the 1st time in 30 years to me. Surprise surprise..you could of picked me up off the floor!

We were up early Saturday morning, as we had to be at the prison by 9am...I manage to get up before everyone else and got coffee going, dressed, make up on, and even manage to have time to take a 10 minute walk under the tree's and in the drizzle...we had a wonderful class, and lots of tears and hugs later Becky and I had a signed contract with 2 witness signatures on it! So now she has a contract to follow and so do I when she comes home...

After we were out of there by 4pm, I checked my cell phone, and I had a few calls...one from Neil, and one from the nurse we had taking care of mom... the nurse was very concerned because mom didn't have the strength to even get out of bed....she couldn't get mom to eat...so I gave her some ideas, and told her to call me back when she got back to the house, as she had to run out for a while....she called me back about 15 minutes later and I told her that if she couldn't get mom up, and if she couldn't get some fluid down her, and some food in her to call 911, and I would have my brother meet the ambulance at the hospital to sign all neccesary papers.. I was ready to throw my suitcase in the car and head back home...I looked at my sister and asked her what I should do, and her remark was "well if it was me I would let her lie there and die" I was totally shocked...and then she said "Terry Mom has had a long unhappy life, and she is ready to go", "but Terry it is your descion to make, I can't make that descion it is up to you" and she is right, as I have Power of Attorney...well I took about 10 minutes to myself, and thought the situation out, and I decided this...

#1 There is NO way I could do this to Becky again...I have only missed one Mother's Day event since they started doing them, and it was because I had the flu...

#2 I also fugured that if Mom was ready to die then me being here wouldn't make a difference..

#3 if the nurse decided that Mom needed to go to the ER then it wouldn't hurt for her to go and get IV's...fluids wouldn't hurt her one bit...

so when I talked with Sarah again, that is what I told her...she called me back about 1/2 hour later and told me that when she got back at the house, mom was awake and said that she was hungry...so Sarah helped her walk to the kitchen and she drank 2 cups of coffee with 3 tablespoons of sugar in it, ate cheese, pickles, and picked at some other food...then mom wanted to sit on the couch for awhile, so she watched Sarah while Sarah did the dishes and cleaned up...then when Sarah was done she told Sarah that she was tired, and wanted to go back to bed. Sarah called me and told me that she felt better about the situation....I told her ok! Sarah did a great job! On Sunday morning, Sarah called me and told me that Mom got up on her own and made her bed, and was wondering around sweeping the floor...good news there!! that is mom's favorite past time! since I have been home, mom has ate, snacked and drank a couple cups of coffee.... I do plan on calling dr. tomorrow and seeing if I can get her in to see him earlier in the week...
