It used to be that when I was riding in a car I could not read or write anything for more than a few minutes before I would start to feel sick. That seems have to have abated a bit lately, because I spent almost the entire drive to Caitlin's camp in southern New Jersey writing and I didn't feel icky-poo, as my sister would have said as a kid, at all. We picked up Caitlin from camp this morning and she seems like a different person - talkative and positive, hugging the many friends who were leaving camp after this first session, discussing all the drama that accompanies a setting with a couple hundred teens. She's changed her major to photography for the second session and will add sculpture as a minor. This camp seems to have been the best thing she could have done for the summer. Rebecca returned from the beach today and we ended up buying her a new laptop. Her old iBook was broken and out of warranty and the minimum repair cost would have been $700. It didn't seem reasonable to spend that much for a 2 year+ computer, when a new one was only a couple of hundred more. She chose a Compaq laptop this time. Much as I hate to leave Apple behind, it makes sense for her to be able to share files with us more easily, and print to the same printer. The Windows laptops were much cheaper than the Macs, but it still makes me sad to abandon the Apple line, which I have used, on and off, since the first Macs were introduced. We were supposed to see a play this afternoon (Looking Over the President's Shoulder at the People's Light), but with the kids home for the first time, we elected to forego that, along with the dinner with friends (who, having just returned from Switzerland, were none to eager to dine out anyway). I really need a hot bath or a soak in the spa, but I'm too tired to manage the walk to either one. Exercise: None. It has not been a good week for walking. Books: The Da Vinci Code is getting marginally better, perhaps only because I like the puzzles and symbols and art history it contains. Music: Listened to 4 CDs on the drive down and back - Gillian Welch, Soul Journey (I really like One Monkey); Kasey Chambers, Barricades and Brickwalls; Loudon Wainwright III, Last Man on Earth; Bruce Cockburn, Breakfast in New Orleans, Dinner in Timbuktu. Movies: I'd like to see Spy Kids 3 when it's released. Cats: Xena is running around as if her fur is made of catnip. Dreams: I know I had a hold of it this morning, and should have written it down then, but now it's done like so much morning dew. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
