The later flights were booked and I ended up on a mid-afternoon flight, which was surprisingly turbulent. I haven't had a bumpy flight in a long time and have forgotten how much unruly air bothers me. (I just looked up a synonym for bumpy and there was none. I resorted to looking up bump and found the phrase "whang together". I kid you not.) Rationally, I know that planes are designed for high stress bumps and grinds, but emotionally, it's always unsettling. I don't have the gut-clenching, muscle-tightening panic of many years ago, but you'd think that after almost 25 years of traveling for business that I would be able to ignore it completely by now. That does rather give away my age doesn't it? Imagine, if you will, that I started working when I was 12.
One of the things I do enjoy about flying is watching the ground go by. I have a strange obsession with maps, and flying is like being able to see a gigantic map scroll past. I do, however, wish the streets and towns and mountain ranges and such were labeled - it would make knowing where I was so much easier. Exercise: Ok, so it was only walking to the office today. Books: Tried to read the Da Vinci Code during the choppy flight, but kept reading the same few paragraphs over and over. Music: Top 5 At 5:00, today on XPN: 5. I Walk The Line, Johnny Cash 4. I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles), The Proclaimers 3. Walking on Broken Glass, Annie Lennox 2. Walking in Memphis, Marc Cohn 1. Walk This Way, Run-D.M.C and Aerosmith #4 is probably a top ten song of mine, although I haven't compiled that list in a while. #2 always makes me sing along, and the original version of #1 will always be superior. You're smart enough to figure out the theme of the list. Movies: Nope, not today. The brand spanking new TV sits idle on the floor until the armoire that will house it is delivered tomorrow. Cats: Rebecca bathed Hercules and Xena while I was away. In the bathtub. With soap. They don't look any worse for the wear. Dreams: I *know* there was one last night that was interesting, but it's gone like yesterday's Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
