If this hotel was a criminal in a police line-up, you wouldn't be able to pick it out. Non-descript rooms, my view is of a tiny mountain and the streetcar that runs down one of the side streets (maybe it's a main street - it's hard to tell here since there is no traffic, even during the approximately 40 seconds that rush hour lasts). The views of the real mountains are on the other side of the building. Breakfast was nothing special either; the waiter did not get cream for my coffee, forgot my order of wheat toast, brought me white toast instead, and was reluctant to bring me more decaf, apparently thinking that one cup of coffee was quite enough for me for one day. Lots of pillows which is a good thing, $10/day high speed internet which is average for hotels that offer it, the heater is old and cranky and is either seventh-circle-of-hell hot or freeze-your-ass-off-in-the-tundra cold. I had forgotten how dry it is out here in the west - they really should provide about a gallon of moisturizer for each room. Nothing to recommend this hotel and I'll try someplace else next time I'm in town.
Last night at about 10:00 PM a pack of wild animals masquerading as teenagers thundered down the hallway, bouncing off doors, throwing what sounded like an adult moose against the walls of their room next door, yelling to each other while they were standing at most 10 feet apart, shaking the vending machines into submission, and then, suddenly, leaving, never to be heard from again. In the midst of the noise party, I did something I've only had to do once or twice in about 25 years of business travelling - call the front desk and sound like a very grumpy grown-up who is tattling on the loud kids. Which I was and they were, but it was an unnecessary call due to their sudden departure. Although maybe it was the highly trained security guard who scared them silent. Lunch today was at am Americanized Asian place called Thaifoon (how clever). I really hate Thai food and Indian food, and would hate Pakistani food if I ever tried it, so it was good that this food was only barely recognizable as having an Asian influence. Tonight I get to experience the culinary delights of Don Shula's Steak House. As long as it's not tough as pigskin and I can a decent glass of wine, it should be ok.
