2004-02-20 9:12 PM PINs and Rosy Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (0) Years ago when I first had an ATM card through my little boutique bank (of course, it wasn’t called a boutique back then – it was just a neighborhood bank - and my first first ATM card was with a bank in my college town who called their ATM Rosy - many crude jokes ensued about that) I was assigned a PIN. I had to remember the 4 digit combination of my bank’s choosing with no chance to change it. Now I use that same PIN for everything that still requires a 4 digit code. Except for my voicemail at work. You nver know who might leave a message there and I don't want it secured behind the flimsy security of a 25 year old number.
Rebecca convinced me to increase the number of movies we can have out from NetFlix to 5, with the intent that she and I could each have 2-3 movies out at a time. She quickly lost interest in updating the rental queue and now we're back to just having my movies on the list. You might think this wouldn't be such a bad thing, except that I now have 5 movies out and feel enormous pressure that I have to watch them all this weekend. I'm off to watch In the Cut, the first of a marathon evening of film enjoyment. Books: No time to read. Must watch movies. But I did finish The Havana Room, which, although it did not quite live up to the fascinating opening, was an enjoyable read and brought up interesting questions about how people get involved in events that fling them out of control. Tried to read A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. Got through the acknowledgments, which were just too precious for words, but could not endure any of the rest. A Staggering Work of Heartbreakingly Bad Writing is a better characterization. Also tried to read Ilium by Dan Simmons, but science fiction based on Greek mythology just doesn't work for me.
