More odd bits.

1. Numbered lists relieve me of the responsibility for providing segues between thoughts or paragraphs. Transitions are way overrated. Which reminds me - there's that Transitions LensesĀ® commercial that starts out, "In the future everyone's glasses will automatically adjust to changing light." First, it's scary I have that memorized. Second, in the future no one will need glasses because everyone will be sufficiently engineered so that less than perfect vision will not be a problem. Perhaps I'm being a bit too literal?

2. My TV viewing habits have sunk to new depths, the absolute nadir of which is the show that stars William Shatner and James Spader as lawyers from BizzaroLand. Too bad Spader is not once again the attorney from Secretary, although he did proclaim that he's "a slut for authority". So maybe he really is.

3. In the past few weeks, I've had a number of people how much I have on my iPod - how many songs, how many days' worth of music, how much stuff. This is apparently the new measure of size, which we all know really does matter.

4. When I was about 10 years old, my father made me a Halloween costume. My friend's father made her a coordinating costume, so that we could trick-or-treat together as a themed entry. So what was it that our fathers collaborated on? Why weren't our mothers the ones making us poufy princess outfits or fluffy bunny costumes? Well, the fathers decided that we would dress as a pack of cigarettes and a box of matches, Not exactly PC, huh? I was the box of matches, which was hand-crafted from a large box that fit over me, with holes cut out for the arms. The front of the box was also cut away, providing a space for the paper towel rolls that were the matches and the red-painted ping pong balls that were the match heads. Everything was then painted to resemble a match box. I couldn't sit down while wearing the damn box, but I did win a silver dollar for best costume at the school Halloween parade.

5. My radio station is now playing the 885 Greatest Songs of All Time, which was compiled from the 4500 top-10 lists they were sent by listeners. (I never did send mine in because I couldn't get the number below 30.) The bottom 5 are:
880 MAGIC BUS by WHO
881 MYSTERY ACHIEVEMENT by PRETENDERS, THE
882 PEACEFUL EASY FEELING by EAGLES
883 SHES A RAINBOW by ROLLING STONES
884 TENTH AVE FREEZE OUT by BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
885 WINDFALL by SON VOLT
They're down to number 400 now and there's both a lot of garbage in the list and a surprising number of what I would have considered top 100 songs already having been included between 400 and 885. Tenth Avenue Freezeout #884?? Dancing Queen #848?? Where is the justice in the world?!
