Today was a momentous milestone. More important than the first day of kindergarten. More significant than the first music recital. More meaningful than the first sleepover. More gut-churningly, heart-wrenchingly anguish-laden than the wave good-bye at the college gates will be. Caitlin took, and passed, her driver's test this morning and is now in possession of a Pennsylvania Class C junior driver's license. Her day was full of driving adventure. She drove to school, a place she normally avoids on Mondays by sleeping until the late afternoon. She drove to King of Prussia, home of the mega-mall. She drove into our small town and was given two tiny deep purple tulips by a man gardening. She had to fill the tank with gas ($18.76 for 3/4 of a tank) and gained an immediate appreciation for the macro-economics of supply and demand. This has not yet motivated her to get a job.
