I found out today that my favorite restaurant in the universe (although I'm sure I'd be equally fond of The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, if there actually was one), La Boheme in Carmel, closed its doors last year. The owners could no longer keep pace with the rent increases demanded by the landlord. My personal version of heaven includes dinner at La Boheme every evening. They served one country French dinner choice each evening, in three courses, along with a respectable wine list and a small selection of exquisite desserts. The walls were covered with French memorabilia, and there was a tiny house inside the tiny restaurant in which two couples could sit. It's almost not worth going back to Carmel again.
