Thanks go to “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” (hurray it’s back on Saturday when I actually remember to LISTEN to the radio) for bringing to my attention the story about a 2003 FBi email. The unnamed agent writing it laments the inability of FBI investigators to use this seemingly effective tool [Section 215 of the Patriot Act], the one allowing searches of library records that has been battled by the ALA and librarians everywhere)”. The memo goes on claiming that this inability “has had a direct and clearly adverse impact on our terrorism cases. While radical militant librarians kick us around, true terrorists benefit from OIPR's [Office of Intelligence policy and review] failure to let us use the tools given to us."
(There’s already a tee shirt available on cafepress at the “Curmudgeony Librarian superstore” and at the “First Amendment factory” site there among others.) Why is it that the first thing that came to mind, alas, is that we have to design a camo jumpsuit for my Librarian Action Figure? (Stu says “and a really big gun”) And why am I pretty sure that the model for said suit would object? Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
