Today, folks, will be all about Enid Schantz. In our communities of sf and mystery, I think you can call someone a good friend even when you don't see them that often. Enid was my good friend. I saw her maybe once a year, but I emailed her regularly, almost always to ask her take on something. Occasional phone calls to learn something, to ask her about something that had happened, was going to happen. She was so level-headed, so smart, so knowledgeable and aware of everything about mystery and the mystery community.

Enid died this morning and I am bereft. (Ana and KJ if you're reading this, a tip of my cool new hat to you.) I read about this on Facebook and just stopped breathing. Enid's death is such a loss to our community and to my world.

Today, if you knew her, think about the last book she recommended to you. Or read something she might have liked, maybe recommended in the review column she and Tom wrote for the Denver Post. She was a reviewer, bookseller, publisher, and while she probably would have scoffed at the term, a wise woman. Someone you go to for answers without bullshit.

If you didn't know her, you would have liked her. I don't care who's reading this, I believe it. Here's who Enid was, for the Rue Morgue website.

My world will not be the same without Enid. My heart goes out to Tom and the family.

Thank you, Enid. I will miss you so much.
