Oh shut up - it's an update of sorts. Some of you know this already and the rest of you should know it. I'm a hopeless, absolutely hopeless Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom fanatic. Hopeless I tell you. Although none of you have been to my house (at least my house in WA), it is obvious from the movies that are on my bookshelves. Movies. Bookshelves. heh. That's funny. It is also obvious if you listen to me talk for more than, oh, say...15 minutes. No, more like an hour. (is it 15 minutes, really?) The very scary thing is that my students are quick enough to pick up on it. And *that* is scary indeed. It is the day after the Super Bowl and we're in class. And, what is the first thing my students want to discuss? Well, yes of course, they want to discuss how the Seahawks got robbed (oh, we did TOO get robbed, even the refs admitted it post-game), but in addition to that, they wanted to discuss the Super Bowl commercials. Mind you, I'm a huge sports fan too so I'm more than willing to spend some time discussing the outcome of the game...which sucked for those of us on the west coast. Then...we move on to the commercials. We talk about their favorites, their least favorites, the ones that they think will appeal to the masses, the ones that will appeal to the specific target, etc. Then one of them makes a comment that she can't believe some of the ads for upcoming movies. The part that she has an especially difficult time with is how incredibly far in advance they are advertising these movies. At this point she said something about..."I can't believe they were advertising a movie that comes out in MAY!" To which I replied, "May? How about the one coming out in July?" To which she replies, "yeah, I mean how can they possibly expect anyone to remember, in February, a movie that isn't coming out until July?!!" (mind you, a girl is saying this) gah. You might be able to imagine my response. It wasn't so much verbal as nonverbal. It went something like this...raised eyebrows, furrowed eyebrows, WIDE open eyes, and slack-mouthed. This went on for a few seconds and then I was able to verbalize..."are you KIDDING me?!!?!? Who could EVER forget the fact that Pirates II is coming out on July 7th??!?!?"
Do you think it was too much? I mean, I didn't *think* I was overdoing it. Some guy from the back of the room pipes up, "Sooomebody has the hots for Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom." heh. This was the point where I tried to play it off lightly, while admitting that I indeed DID have the hots for the two of them. Of course, this got me literally hot and a few moments were required before I could begin the topic of the day, which was something relatively boring like 'Knowedge and Understanding of Consumers'.
Cats out. *shrug* could be worse....right? Something to think about: “I know the difference now between dedication and infatuation. That doesn't mean I don't still get an enormous kick out of infatuation;: the exciting ephemera, the punch in the stomach, the adrenaline to the heart.” ~Anna Quindlen
