2006-05-04 7:39 PM Wicked. And Popular Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (8) I'm a very Wicked mood. And have been for a couple weeks.
No worries, though. I'm talking about the musical Wicked. Fabulous. FABULOUS. For those of you unfamiliar with it, here's an excerpt from the description, "Nominated for a whopping 10 Tony Awards and grossing more than $1 million each week, Wicked is this year's Broadway smash! A prequel to the all-American classic The Wizard of Oz, this new musical is a character study of Elphaba and Glinda, school roommates who grow up to become the Wicked Witch and the Good Witch, respectively."
I read the book about 3-4 years ago and loved it. Then last summer when I was in Chicago I went to the Broadway (is it off-Broadway if it is in Chicago? Whatever. Someone correct me on that) show. We were in the front row and at times literally felt as though we were on the stage with them.
If you get the chance, GO. Even if you're not big into musicals. You won't regret it. Wicked the Musical or, in Chicago, Wicked in Chicago
So, anyway, I bought the Original Cast Recording a couple weeks ago and have had it on repeat constantly since. I realize that without having seen the show, the songs won't mean as much to you because you don't know the story behind them - which is why you must go to the show! And, because I'm addicted, I also bought this Grimmerie. And, if you'd like to read the book that set this whole thing in motion, here you go. Wicked
Wow. I don't think I've ever included so many links in one entry. And I'm not finished yet! Soundtrack: For Good This is a very touching song, sung by Glinda and Elphaba towards the end of the play. and, for a a hilarious piece (she speaks so quickly, you'll probably have to listen a couple times!) Popular This is Galinda singing to Elphaba nearer the start of the play. Ah, hell, here you go (lyrics to Popular):
ELPHABA (spoken) You really don't have to do that
GALINDA
Popular!
To be popular
Don't be offended by my frank analysis
La la la la
When I see depressing creatures
They were popular! Please -
(spoken) Why, Miss Elphaba, look at you. You're beautiful. ELPHABA(spoken) I - I have to go:
GALINDA
