Laphroaig and the Fog

Les came over tonight, and we watched "the Fog" (relatively recent, mediocre horror flick) and cracked open a bottle of Scotch. It was "Lafroaig," which I was quite pleased by, since Ian Banks raves about it in his book about whiskey , "Raw Spirit" and, intrigued by his description, I've been interested in trying it for some time. It's really good. I'm afraid my sense of taste/descriptive skills aren't quite up to the kind of description it deserves--"a rich blend of A and B, with just a hint of C hiding behind the aftertaste of D-ness"--but it was really good. Very unique flavor. The fact that "really good" and "unique" are all I can come up with tells me that, unlike Banks, I will never be commissioned to write a book about Scotch. Which is a shame, since I love the stuff so much and would like to get paid for drinking it.

"The Fog" was OK, I guess. Many of the recent horror flicks I've seen have been worse. The problem, I think we decided, is that like so many contemporary movies in that genre, it's not bad enough to be enjoyed on the level you can enjoy vintage 1970's horror on, and not good enough to be enjoyed on a different level.
