2006-11-02 12:05 AM Austin, Nano, Clarkesworld Off to the Lone Star State in the afternoon, not to return till Sunday, to attend World Fantasy.
Should be fun. # Last Thursday, in a fit of enthusiasm/craziness, I signed up for NanoWriMo. Meaning that by Monday I need to come up with a novel idea, so I can cracking on those 50,000 words. Anyone got any they aren't using? :-) # Vlar Kaftan has a very good (but intensely disturbing) time travel story in the current issue of Clarkeseworld. There are enough thematic points in common with last month's Nazi alternate history story by Lavi Tidhar--the other story so far published in the "open slot" section--that you can get an emerging picture of Mamatas' editorial tastes. Last month, I said about that story that "this establishes that Clarkesworld not only pays better but also publishes stuff that considerations of good taste, marketing and publishers' reaction might give an editor in one of the big paper digests second thoughts about publishing." I think Kaftan's story tends to confirm that. Sadly, I can't submit anything to Clarkesworld myself, since that would mean writing something that was less that 4,000 words long.
