And now I can cross cameraman off my list of potential careers. Lugging 50 pounds of equipment around Chi-town...I can't think of anything else more enticing...
And on our first day of one-man banding (not technically, but it feels like it nonetheless), our profs sent us out with words of encouragement: "If you get shot at, get the hell out of there. It is a matter of survival" Yes, after Medill students have been shot at, robbed and stabbed while trying to shoot footage, the school thinks it appropriate to remind us to be on our guard. Oh, and don't go to Cabrini Green if you can avoid it. Duly noted. It seems to me common sense that a little white girl carrying $16,000 worth of electronics through the projects is a big bullseye target. But some people dig that kind of exposure, which is why these seriously undercovered and thus ignored parts of the city and society are not completely forgotten. So what do you do? Can you make a martyr out of yourself? Risk getting gunned down in the projects? Well, that's just another tragic story coming out of there that makes people want to look away...the question then becomes, how do we make them see?
