I find it both ingenious and upsetting that channel 7 in Boston has devoted the first ten minutes of its newscast solidly to coverage of the Red Sox. Other news in town and in the world? Inconsequential. It is important for Boston fans' egos to be assuaged during a succession of 1.5-minute packages that bring home the slim chances that the team still has to pull out a playoff spot. And I think I can die happy now that I know that Bennifer 2 was at the game rooting on their beloved Red Sox.

Oh, and where was the responsible fair and balanced journalism? What about how the Yankees fans on the streets of Boston feel? Marginalized, much? Oppressed? Threatened? A half of a second of coverage hardly does these powerful emotions any justice!

My allegiences (however flighty they may seem) and lingering bitterness after my favored team tanked last year have nothing to do with any sarcasm and/or criticisms. In fact, I applaud the producer. If I were a Boston fan and I didn't hear anything about the Sox in the first ten minutes, I would have switched the damn channel faster than the Waco Kid can check. And any chance to make fun of foolishly brazen Yankees' fans is like a soothing ointment for the bruised ego.

In fact, even as a Yankees' fan, I would have jumped for the clicker if there hadn't been any up-front coverage. I just HAD to be a witness to the tangible denial in Boston this evening in response to the clear-as-day fact that the bombers reigneth supreme.

A message to all New Yorkers in Boston who presently have their cars parked on Boylston Street: MOVE YOUR CARS RIGHT F-ING NOW.
