Does the five-year mark really mean anything? Is it clinically significant period of time in terms of bouncing back from post traumatic stress syndrome? Or is it a fabrication of a commercial society that uses divisible time periods and stereotypes to best market products to target audiences?

The latter makes an odd kind of sense, given that it took less than a scant five years before Hollywood got its grubby hands on the one screenplay so real that it was impossible to dream up. It only took five years to make millions off the tragedy--granted some productions are donating proceeds to victim family funds...not sure if that really excuses the whole deal though...And it's only a matter of time before Katrina heads toward the western cellulite hills.

At the same time, to condemn mass ceremonies, lavish symbolism, extensive media coverage and a relentless focus on the sad tales of that day is one of the most inappropriate things one could imagine. It's our way--our loud, proud American way--of healing, coming together, maybe even for a moment forgetting our differences?

Well, that last part might be wishful thinking, even if you do think in sound bites.

Everyone has a story about that day. Everyone remembers exactly where they were and what they were doing and how they went about their day. It's like when Kennedy was shot or when man landed on the moon. So I say, share your stories! Tell them far and wide and loud and proud! I guarantee every one of them is worth its weight in a million hollywood screenplays to anyone who listens. Cause you'll never have to worry about forgetting it.
