Oh sweet irony. Delicious karma.

I was walking on the main drag of a lovely little mid-Westchester town this weekend, when I witnessed a traffic altercation. Two cars were vying for the same spot on the road as they passed through an intersection. The driver of the first car almost drove into the driver of the second. A red-faced, middle-aged white man--the driver of the first car--rolled down his window and screamed out for all to hear: "F-- you a--hole! Why don't you go back to Mexico!"

Much honking and flipping off ensued in the seconds that followed the horrid remark. Then it went a step further. The first driver stopped the car in the middle of the road so the car behind him (the car driven by the alleged "Mexican") had to stop as well. He got out of his car, walked up to the other car and proceeded to scream more racist obscenities right into the driver's face. All the while, folks and their children stared from the sidewalks.

Oncoming traffic forced the little display of racism, classism, ethnocentrism (and any other isms you can think of) to come to an end. So the flummoxed, rich, racist white guy goes to get back into his German-engineered car...but finds that he has locked himself out with the engine running!

As I watched the guy break into his car in the middle of traffic, I thought, ain't that karmic?
