Buffalo Gal Judi Griggs I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. 2004-03-08 7:40 AM So-Cal Sunshine The last time I saw him he was a gangly new high school graduate. Yesterday, he and his mother picked me up at LAX in his immaculately restored, 1968 powder blue Mustang convertible . The weather was perfect and even the most jaded fellow travellers at the arrivals curb cast an admiring glance.
My friend's son, Harry, has grown into the kind of man who would make any parent proud. Smart, funny, personally and financially successful... and willing to surrender an entire day to haul his mother and her goofy friend up and down Wilshire Blvd, to the Santa Monica Pier and, of course, Venice Beach. His mom and I drove back to San Diego exhausted and leaving me wondering what magic pixie dust is necessary to make a young life work so well. His parents would be the first to admit his life has been complicated. But he took those complications and made them strengths. Forget the blue skies, fragrant flowers, and beautiful bodies abundant here. If they could bottle what makes Harry Harry, Governor Ah-nuld would have no budget problems.
