Buffalo Gal Judi Griggs I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. 2004-06-27 5:35 PM All Star break We've done the annual spring training pilgrimmage, to St. Louis game trek and came close to a declaration of war with the cable company over the baseball package... and we're not even to the All-Star break. It's at this time each year that I wonder if I should be treated for Adult ADD.
In my eight years with my husband, there seem to be a few weeks around Christmas time when there isn't a baseball game to be watched and statistics to be studied. Not that I'm counting or anything, but this season there are 23 games in April, 28 in May, 28 in June, 25 in July (All-Star Break) 27 in August, 28 in September, 3 in October... and then the playoffs start. The 33-game spring training schedule is twice as long as an entire NFL regular season. Baseball was born before mass media and modern telecommunications. There was no NBA, NHL, or NFL. Folks clearly had some time on their hands. This year I'm taking a hibernation strategy. As Charlie sits recliner-ready for each game, I migrate to the couch hoping that it will be over when I wake up. The games outlast me every time, but I am exceptionally well-rested these days. The Cards are up by seven runs going into the 9th as I write, but he'll be with them until the end. There isn't another game until tommorrow. When the day comes for our daughters to plan their weddings -- they've got those couple weeks around Christmas... and the All-Star break.
