I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. Enjoy every sandwich

The Warren Zevon tribute album "Enjoy Every Sandwich" comes out Oct. 19. It will go directly into my CD player, joining Ray Charles' "Genius Loves Company" and remind me without sublety that I am not getting old. I am old.
Gone are the musician martyrs of youth ... Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Jim Croce, Harry Chapin,Townes Van Zandt, Stevie Ray Vaughan... succumbing to sudden violence or wretched excess.
My musicians now fall to the same ailments discussed after any round of golf at a country club.
Still photos from the last three Stones' tours look like a death watch, but Jagger does the Energizer Bunny thing and it buys us one more round of the tonic that promises our generation is age immune.
We're the folks who used to see cigarette and liquor advertisements on television. Now our kids get to see endless commercials promising us incessant sexuality vitality, relief from arthritis pain and other designer prescription solutions.
I'm coming to the realization that our answers are not at either end of the chemical spectrum, but in Zevon's simple wisdom and grace as he knew was getting ready to move on -- "enjoy every sandwich."
It doesn't make for much of an ad campaign. But it's a pretty damn good idea.
