I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. City sidewalks, pretty sidewalks... sometimes

My most productive time is lunch, particularly when I can enjoy it alone.
I love the constant stimulation of new challenges, fresh ideas and even irregularly timed disasters. I have always chosen my employment accordingly.
Skip the marching bands, I use the halftime of lunch to sort out what has happened so far that day and play in my mind with what I can do about it.
Thus, the "city walking" Allentown neigborhood was one of the big plus factors on deciding on this job. (Who needs a living wage when there are dozens of restaurants, shops and a great used book store in a three-block radius?)
Solitary lunches in the first weeks were euphoric. Each noon hour an urban treasure hunt.
The first fluffy snowflakes, being the cotton candy ones that linger on your eyelashes before they disappear, only added to the magic.
Yesterday, the quaint brick and cobbled sidewalks were mined with black ice. The snow came sideways in stinging pellets. The sky was deep grey and angry. I ducked into a nearby restaurant and the wind slammed the door behind me. I was only warm again when it was time to return to the office.
Today was clear and cold with no precipitation. I picked up several menus along the way.
The other good part about working in the city -- they deliver.
