Buffalo Gal
Judi Griggs

I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. Heading home

I did not not reduce a single pile on my desk today, in fact added to several, but it was a day for progress.
Getting to know my colleagues and liking it. Scoring small victories on projects. Maybe even getting used to the cold.
(OK, so I'm stretching it a little).
I'll greet tomorrow with a burst of desk-clearing energy because tomorrow night at this time I'll be on a plane just hours from home.
Everyone else has been talking about Christmas for weeks now, mine starts when I walk in our St. Simons door. I used to hate the little plane from Atlanta to Brunswick, tomorrow it's Santa's sleigh.
Sunday I'll be driving back to Buffalo with Charlie, Jen and Nick. The process of introducing them to my world and integrating the two spaces will finally begin. I'm only sorry there are no performances while they are here. Jen and Nick will see what I do now, but until they hear the orchestra will not understand why. At least Jess will be able to attend a February performance.
Industry research shows 27 percent of the adult population would potentially buy a ticket to a symphony performance, but only 3 to 4 percent do. They listen in their cars or are intimidated by imagined concert hall rules and regulations and stay away.
I can't name that tune or pronounce the names of most composers without embarssing myself, but that statistic amazes me. I love live music ( excepting rap, hip-hop and hat acts) but no performance offers the power and emotion of a world-class symphony in a wonderful hall.
It's almost as exciting as going home tomorrow.
