Buffalo Gal
Judi Griggs

I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. Uncorking

I've had three bottles of my favorite cheap Sauvignon Blanc laying patiently on their sides in my mini-fridge since a few days after I moved in.
Back in St. Simons they would be well into the recycling process by now. But there is something just wrong about drinking alone when you're stressed and sad.
So I've restocked the cheese shelf, the cereal milk, the fruit juices and the apple bin. The skinny top shelf has remained untouched.
Today was wonderful chaos at work. Too many things left undone at the end of the day, but so many others coming together. Things that made no sense last week are coming clear as easily as focusing a long lens.
My last meeting went well past 6 p.m. and forced me to rush to a program recognizing Symphony Scholars, local high school students who have attended performances and special learning opportunities. Some of the acceptance speeches were polished poilticians to be, others overcharged with hormones ("I'd like to thank my beautiful girlfriend sitting there), but the awkward, halting testimonies to the power of an experience "I never thought could stomach" shortened the long day.
When I stopped at the apartment, my mailbox had it's first and second letters. Newsy, warm missives from home.
I drove out to the 'burbs to visit my aunt afterwards and made a date to have dinner with a cousin on Thursday.
When I settled in for the night, I found my email boxes as interesting as the postal one.
I settled in to read and answer with an apple and a chunk of cheese, thought back over the day, and poured a glass of wine.
