I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. $100 for a picture with Little Ricky

I will admit that at times my sense of financial scale is whacked.
I have a mental inventory, updated each time I walk through the store, of which items are cheaper to buy in identical quality at the Dollar Store. I don't buy them at the grocery store... ever.
However, my scrapbooks and tools easily total an investment of more than $1,000 over these many months of Ramen noodle meals. It's not a rational prioritization, but it works for me. I understand the strength of small passions.
But I can't, for the life of me, understand the circumstance where it would make sense to spend $100 to have your picture taken with Keith Thibodeaux, the actor who played Little Ricky.
My daughter Jennine is a huge "I Love Lucy" fan. Lucy was born in nearby Jamestown and it just so happens the town is celebrating Lucy's birthday when Jen is here next week. When I saw a newspaper item about the special guest appearance by Little Ricky and I thought it would be fun kitsch (let's face it folks, Matlock can look like Matlock for a long time, but expiration date on still looking like Little Ricky turned about the 40 years ago)-- and there is little I would not do for my Jennine.
Add to that short list, spend $100 to have her picture taken with Little Ricky.
The picture is, mind you, taken in a replication of the "I Love Lucy" living room set and DOES allow access to the ultra exclusive replication of the Tropicana Night Club set.
Other items on the program include several $15 tours of "Lucy Town," a $10 "Fan Reunion, a $10 Lucy Trivia contest, a $50 reception where Edie Adams remembers Lucy, and ... well you can check out the rest for yourself at http://store.yahoo.com/lucille-ball-desi-arnaz-center/tickets.html.
So, we will probably skip the $8 screening of "Yours Mine and Ours" and pay a little less to see "Wedding Crashers" in town.
Although I could probably build a gorgeous scrapbook page around that $100 picture...
