Buffalo Gal Judi Griggs I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. 2005-09-14 7:25 AM Punctuated by music Today begins ten days of insanity punctuated by intervals of spectacular music - two classics, one pops, one ecletic jam and three rock and roll shows in 10 days.
Our season opener with Yo-Yo Ma is sold out and the musicians come back to work today. I've got a television crew that will be covering a couple of them and need to get over to the hall shortly. Today will be a blur of meetings and deadlines which will end this evening at a Hurricane Relief concert featuring a couple of our favorite local bands. Thursday, Friday and Saturday will fly by in preparation for the Gala and season opener. Yo-Yo on the stage , a table of some of my favorite people... and Charlie in a tux. Nice. Monday is the Monday night jam, Mary's weekly music tradition where strangers instantly became my friends when I arrived in Buffalo. Any week I miss it just doesn't go as well. Standards, jazz, blues, classics -- music just happens as smooth and easy as the conversation. Tuesday, it's another classic symphony concert Respighi's "Church Windows" played at an historic church. Thursday will be crazy with a press conference/ stunt during the day, but ends in Niagara Falls meeting my brother and his wife to see our favorite Jersey rocker John Eddie at a fundraiser. We haven't seen John in nearly a year and will go back and see him again at a festival performance on Friday. Saturday is the Pops opener with Doc Severinsen and the reunion there of our cottage gang. It will be a "Night in Old Italy" on the stage.. and the first time I've seen the cottage guys wearing long pants in months. The spaces between the shows are jam packed, but the pauses for the music will make it work. Copyright 2005 Judi Griggs Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
