Buffalo Gal
Judi Griggs

I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. Fall fell

The temperature dropped from the 80s to the 40s this weekend stealing the blue from the sky.
In case we hadn't already planned to go out and close the cottage for the season, Mother Nature shouted "it's time!"
Fall arrived not with the traditional herald of color, but the thud of the thermometer.
The foliage has not yet fired up in autumn's blaze, forcing me to question my memory for gorgeous colors of a late September "Family Weekend" I attended up here at Jessica's college a few years back. I went through the pictures this morning and , sure enough, the hills were red, gold and orange... as was the ivy on the classroom buildings. The green leaves out my window today are incongruous to the calendar and weather.
At the bonfire last night at the cottage, a persistent young Labrador Retriever begged over and over to have his stick thrown into the water one more time. The water was much warmer than the air.
Every day you overhear a conversation about how the big Lake Effect blizzards always follow hot summers resulting in the lake freezing later in the winter season.
This was the hottest summer on record here. Spring was short and unheralded.
Let's hope winter will be considerably more graceful than the others.
