Buffalo Gal Judi Griggs I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. 2005-11-01 9:53 AM Inbox voyeur If there is any pearl of wisdom I can hope to leave my daughters it is this - never use your business email address for personal dealings.
In the intimacy of your office it may feel like your address, but it's not. It's simply on loan to you to do your job, like a desk or phone. You don't get to take it with you and you may be leaving behind much more than you'd like to share. I recently inherited a couple of clients and an email address auto forward from another who either did not have or heed this counsel. Because her address has been converted to mine, I can't simply "unsubscribe" to the dozens of retail, personal and political sites and services from which she gets daily mail. I've been discretely forwarding personal matters and weekend invitations, but the temptation to simply delete gets stronger as the days drag on. There are things I simply do not want to know about this person... even if they are delivered to the computer and desk that I am using right now. For me, I have three outside accounts... one for larger business related files and document storage, one for all personal general purposes... and an obscure unlisted one that will never see spam. Cyberspace may be wide open... but a few fences are not a bad idea. Copyright 2005 Judi Griggs Read/Post Comments (1) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
