Buffalo Gal Judi Griggs I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. 2006-03-10 3:50 PM Pounding it out It's pretty easy to tell the relics who learned to type on a manual typewriter from the rest of civilized society.
We hit the keys HARD in anticipation of a non-existent springback. Others can hear clattering racket of my "thought process" down the hall long before I come into view. Keys wear bare on the vowels and consonants most frequently bought from Vanna. For me, the n's are always the first to go. But it's OK. I know where it is. My world is literally at my fingertips. Add email to a career that already requires hours of keyboard composing every day and I have a job which basically excercises my fingers and my mind -- to best effect at the same time. My fourth grade teacher peppered my "otherwise very interesting" essays with question marks where I omitted words which I thought I wrote, but actually skipped over in the race to keep up with my mind. I'm not sure my typing is any faster than the No. 2 Tioconderoga pencils of yore, it's likely my mind has simply settled to a more comfortable speed. Even in the lean, healthfulness of youth I couldn't run a marathon and these days a sprint is probably out of the question. But give me the chance to run with an idea, and I can play the Lone Ranger theme in the key of qwerty. Copyright 2006 Judi Griggs Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
