Buffalo Gal

I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. Power play

A room temperature toilet seat is not a bad thing - unless the room temperature is 40 degrees.
On the fifth day without power I've largely made the shift from seeking creature comfort to simply being a creature.
I burrow under blankets and scurry down darkened hallways. I forrage for food and make choices based solely on availability.
I look in the mirror once I get to work to confirm all the necessary clothing pieces are in place and don't blink twice at a blue and black sock combination.
I will no longer surrender to the cruelty of optimism. My heart leapt at the sight of three massive power company trucks parading down the center of my street yesterday evening. If I had a flag I would have waved it as the first one pulled up in front of our house and the driver rolled down the window. I ran to the beckoning knight perched high on the two-ton steed.
He asked me where the Blockbuster store was - and the other two trucks followed him there. Rationally, one would expect the power guys would have power. But did they have to flaunt it?
Maybe today...
