I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. Getting to know you - again

I got a screaming new laptop at work today. It has more speed, style and capability than I do.
The screen is extra large. The processor like lightening. It has programs that could possibly make me almost relevant to my nieces.
It graciously accepted my motley collection of documents and photos from the old machine and somehow makes them all new and vibrant again.
This would all make for an exceptional Monday - except it doesn't yet autofill my email addresses in the compose function.
I can't say I really appreciated this little trick and the precious seconds and frustration saved - until it is gone. Each client, colleague and contact has to be searched out and entered the first time -- if they haven't sent me an email answered today. Once they are in, that little section of my world returns to a good place.
In the interest of speed over efficiency, I've tried a couple of times to wing it annd enter an address from memory. Turns out my personal processor is shot.
It's been a stark reminder how dependent I am on email, how many people I correspond with in a given day and how badly I type.
Yet, it's a small price to pay for a screen that doesn't need to work in concert with my reading glasses and a processor that doesn't hum "I'll get back to you."
Technology marches forward and I'm typing as fast as I can to catch up.
