Buffalo Gal Judi Griggs I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. 2007-09-15 7:20 AM House sweet home We've bought several houses over the years. We're finally buying a home.
It was love at first site - the house, the owner who has meticulously loved it for the last 18 years, the neighbors who welcomed us with enthusiasm. I'ts been brewing for the last several weeks, but I've been afraid to write about it. Afraid to jinx it. So much can go wrong in a real esate transaction - and you might have read a little something in the newspapers lately about the mortgage markets. That this could all happen coicidentally with the time we have to get out of the house we're renting truly seemed too good to be true. But we're thisclose to setting the closing date. Thanks to an amazing lawyer lady named Susan I met two days before we made the offer and a mortgage magician referred by a former client (as well as a faraway friend who is never too far) we're over the hurdles and down to the speed bumps. Relatives are calling with offers of their trucks and strong-backed children and we're signing them up! Toni called last night and offered boxed AND an invitation to a party to break up the boxing. I started packing last night - coding the Sharpie color scrawl on the outside of the box to the room where I hope it will land - and thinking about how Lily the lab will run in her first fenced yard or where I'll put the birdfeeder by the window this spring to make the cats crazy. I see myself setting the Thanksgivng table in the dining room. Who knows? That elusive novel could be waiting in my craft room upstairs. All that remains to be revealed. I just know it's home.
