And another Friday comes around. Brought to us by the RevGalBlogPals
1) Are you a baby about small injuries? I like to think not. I may whine for sympathy, but I think I'm pretty tough. I always wonder if I have a high pain tolerance or not, it's all relative, I suppose. 2) What's the silliest way you have ever hurt yourself? Remember medicine ball? Remember the four circles on the mat where you played medicine ball? It was after school PE in 9th grade, I think. We were jumping between the four circles on the medicine ball mat in the weight room. I came down on my foot wrong, and twisted the heck out of my ankle. It took me out for quite a while. It was very early in the school year and finally at winter break I went to see the doctor who told me that I'd torn a bunch of ligaments/tendons and that I should stay off of it. He wrote me a note to stay off for 2 weeks. I was sad that only one of the two weeks was during actual school, the other was the second week of the break. Other things I remember: I did this on a Friday afternoon. I had my first club soccer game the next day-I sat it out, but I was there!! I had to babysit Saturday night and I was in so much pain by the time I got home from it, I could barely get myself inside the house before I burst into tears. And yet, we didn't think I needed to see the doctor until I was STILL in pain in December. 3) Who took care of your boo-boos when you were a child? My mom, I think. I'm pretty sure my dad's not so good with blood, but I'm not sure exactly why I think that either. 4) Are you a good nurse when others have boo-boos? I think I am. With LB he bounces back from most things but when he needs nursing, I think I do well. The hardest part is that any big injury twists up my stomach just thinking about it. The actual isn't so bad, but the thought of my baby hurt is bad. 5) What's the worst accidental injury you've suffered? Did it require a trip to the Emergency Room? I've only been in the hospital twice and once was quite intentional. The other was probably the worst injury I've ever suffered and did, indeed necessitate a trip to the ER. This thing happened when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. I was a serious tomboy and I was a skateboarder. We lived at the top of a hill and I used to ride my skateboard down the hill on the sidewalk. The hill was only a block long so it wasn't that long, but then I had to get back up the hill. I was little and the easiest way for me to get back up the hill was to kneel on the board and use one leg to push myself up the hill. I'd done it a billion times. But one day as I was getting to the top of the hill, I hit a crack in the sidewalk, the kind where one bit of cement is an inch or two above the one next to it. Well the board caught on that lip and it stopped. I, owing to my inertia, did not. My hands pretty well stayed on the board as did my knees, so the first part of me to impact the ground was my chin. We all know about how sharp that chin bone is and how easy it is to split your chin open by banging it on something. I managed to do just that. My specific memories of that time: One of the neighborhood kids (older, probably teenager at the time) saw the whole thing and just stood there doing nothing to help. We used an old washcloth to hold on the chin while I was driven to the hospital. While getting the stitches, they put a cloth over my face wih a hole in it for my chin to stick through. Getting the stitches didn't hurt, but I could feel it and the first thing I did after they finished giving me the stitches was find the nearest bathroom and puke-the feeling of getting the stitches was not one that I enjoyed.
