I'm officially taking a cake decorating class. The first class was today, and it was fun. Another woman and I were working on the same cake which also made it fun. I did learn a few new things even.
When doing straight lines across the top of the cake, it works well to keep the tip about 1/4" above the cake surface, it makes for a pretty straight pretty uniform thickness line. We did a butterfly cake, which was relatively easy, but I still have some work to do on basic icing, just getting the cake smoothly covered and stuff. The cake did come out pretty well though. We colored our own piping gel. I chose to make the body black (it's actually dark grey). The border is an "E" border and was really not terribly difficult to do. The teacher is letting me skip ahead in the class somewhat because I have a tiny bit of decorating experience. Next class, I'll be making a book which will include some flowers as well. It should be fun. But, here's the cake I decorated today. Read/Post Comments (3) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
