Healing comes in jump starts
the genesis of this pain
no less than crackling molten fire
subsides and crashes again
without warning

The heart attempts to do the impossible
To heal itself of that unthinkable memory
That impossible, can’t possibly be real,
January evening that came
Without warning

Sorrow moves to painful remembrance
and healing is interrupted by the
demands of cascading days. Those who
said they would remain have gone
without warning

Who can blame them for banishing
the sadness when they can? The
uncomfortable companion of pain and
loss moves in on the unprotected
without warning

They say time moves on. Those who
don’t know the depth and breadth
of consuming passionate adoring love.
Years pass. Time moves on. Relentlessly.
without warning

The heart begins to heal itself still in
the midst of disbelief. An unexpected smile,
a deep breath, a night uninterrupted by the
nightmare. Time moves on. The tide turns
without warning

The dread of continued life ebbs and hope
shyly and tenuously peeks around the edges
smoothing them with a promise of peace.
Hope dares to recover. Time moves on, they say
Without warning

You live in my heart and soul and will for all my days
Yet I’m left here with the remaining years of my life.
I struggle to believe in a going on, any purpose at all.
