A long leisurely breakfast reading the daily paper at Le Peep followed by watching two of my precious grandsons play baseball. Nine boys and girls, as different as their ethnicitis, sizes and social backgrounds come together once each week to play a game and do something together that they couldn't possibly do separately. My son-in-law helps coach the team and my daughter is the team mom, lining them up to bat with alternate moments of encouraging and consoling. This day, both teams lost, but the boys seemed almost not to notice. They had fun and after all, there's always tomorrow. I remember the years of my boys playing soccer and baseball, the tiring practices, the injuries held close and unannounced, the unpredictability of game day weather and the joy of winning. Watching J&J play, I find myself in a time warp....sitting simultaneously in the past and the present.
