We’re told this is the beginning of the wet season yet clear blue skies, bright sunshine and brisk ocean breezes continue. I’m loving Costa Rica, at least this northwestern area of Tamarindo Beach on the Pacific coast in the Guanacasta province. All those clothes we brought are just hanging in the hotel closet since as soon as we wake up we jump into bathing suits and head for the ocean or the pool…..depending on the mood and morning. This is made easier since our room is on the first floor and only 50 yards from the beach at high tide.
Breakfast is served on the open terrace overlooking both the pool and the ocean. Our days are spent reading in our palm-tree-shaded lounge chairs, swimming in the pool, sailing at sunset on a 50ft topsail boat, playing in the ocean as the waves crash in. Surfers of all ages and from all over the world are here. The waves and 85 degree waters are the stuff they say they dream of. The ads refer to Tamarindo Beach as the “perfect setting for some of the best surfing in the western hemisphere.” Now I don’t surf….but I enjoy watching the multitudes. Deep-sea fishing is another popular thing to do here and as much as I enjoy it, we’ve decided to just relax this entire trip. . We’re staying at The Hotel Diria http://centralamerica.com/cr/hotel/diria.htm and enjoying the friendly native staff.
