Good movie. The kind that settles in for a day or two after. Touted as the best film ever made about the fashion world, over 100 designers were represented in the film's wardrobe and at least one million dollars in clothes were used. Based on the book by Laura Weisberger, who catalogues her "tortuous stint as assistant to Anna Wintour, US Vogue's iconic editor-in-chief", it is as much about journalism, selling out, ambition, and the eventual finding of one's self as about fashion. Streep is excellent as always and describes Hathaway as a breathtaking talent in her role as Andy. What's there to say about Stanley Tucci except that he's such an accomplished actor. (loved him in Shall We Dance?) Simon Baker was intriguing as Christian and Emily Blunt played an impressive self-centered, blindly ambitious Emily, easy to dislike. Sex and the City Director David Frankel filmed just the right light-hearted touch. Rolling Stone has suggested that Meryl Streep is never given credit for her more comedic roles..........perhaps that will change now. Yep, good movie, not great, but really good.
