I've now joined those who have braved the lines to see Superman. First of all, the soundtrack was amazing. I'm not one who usually notices the soundtrack but it got my attention several times, particularly during the longer flight scenes. Brandon Routh was impressive as his boyhood hero and Kate Bosworth was mostly believable even if parts of her storyline weren't. Having read the critics review of Kevin Spacey, I found it hard to understand what they didn't like. I think he did a superior Lex Luther. Of the seven possible storylines, this is definitely the ressurection allegory. (see John Q., Hurricane, Jesus of Montreal, E.T. for starters) Baby Moses is saved from destruction by being sent away and taken in by surrogate parents; his true identify is kept secret from the world until the right time for him to step up and save folks; he has a keen understanding of human nature and an ability to love/save others in spite of their carelessness or "wickedness". He willingly goes to the site of his predicted demise, is denied by one who shouldn't (Kate) and who watches him be crucified (Lex's thugs) piercing his side with krytonite; dies, is tended to by the special woman in his life, and after somewhat of a wait (3 biblical days) is resurrected. His beloved father is his teacher and inspiration. (the father becomes the son becomes the father) Superman continues to believe in the goodness and redemption of people. There will likely be some whiplash reactions to the paternity plot line but for now I'm satisfied that the superhero of my childhood is alive and well. Good job, Superman.
