It seems calm, sweet girl Lexy isn't so calm and laid back after all. Some trying behaviors are out-picturing the stress of a new home and the clear lack of any previous training on her part or ours. Lexy turns aggressive as other dogs approach during her morning walk and if you've ever had a dog you know what that's about. And does this dog ever love the car! It's a challenge to get in to go to work in the morning as this 50 lb canine is trying push through to go for a ride. Every time one approaches any car, she tries to bolt in as fast as she can. Those dogs you've seen hanging their heads out of cars, seemingly loving the wind in their face, well....that's Lexy.
Talked to the trainer this morning. "Give it a chance. None of this is unusual at this point." she says. Seems Golden Retrievers "live" for people contact so when we arrive home from work she is all over us (to put it mildly). Lovely, sweet, definitely affectionate Lexy will attend her first obedience class next week. And while we hope that helps Lexy, the trainer makes it clear that 85% of the training will be of us.
