Another story about arrested development. Most critics gave it a thumbs down but, well, I just go to movies to suspend reality for awhile and enjoy an evening with family and friends. I really don't care if it's not Shindler’s List or Citizen Kane. I’m not very critical, although I have been known to walk out of a movie or two.

My idea of a really good movie is one that I would go see again. A great movie is one I want to own. I enjoy okay movies but they’re often forgettable. Then there’s the really bad ones during which I keep shifting in my seat while struggling to get enough light on my watch to see the time. (hence they did NOT suspend reality for me) Years ago I gave myself permission to walk out if one was just too poorly done…just because I bought a ticket doesn’t mean I’m a prisoner in the building until it’s over.

You, Me and Dupree belongs in the okay category even though I’m a devoted fan of Kate Hudson. She carried her part well as the wet-blanket wife turned tenderheart. I love her giggle and think she is every bit as funny as her mother! Michael Douglas and Matt Dillon were okay but the Charm in this movie comes from Owen Wilson who just may be an acquired taste; at least he has been for me. He plays Dupree with surprisingly insightful gentleness and child-like charm.

Critic Scott Tobias of Onion Av Club said it best: “What makes Owen Wilson special is that his characters always work to make the world more child-like and whimsical, and the films brighten up as a result.” Amen.
